Felix McCullagh, born 20 June 1889, was the ninth child, and seventh son, of Michael McCullagh and Matilda Devlin of the townland of Trickvallen, Ardboe parish.
Local information relates that Felix died as a young man; that he received gunshot wounds (in Magherafelt, Co Derry, 12 miles from Ardboe) which resulted in his death. This is confirmed by a newspaper report –
Saturday 26 November 1910
Felix McCullagh was out shooting last week and his gun went off – the contents lodging in his foot. He was removed to the Union Infirmary on Saturday where Drs Hegarty and Kerlin amputated four toes, and he died on Wednesday evening.
The headstone marking the family grave in Mullinahoe graveyard bears the following inscription –
In loving memory of Michael McCullagh (Trickvallen) who died on 8th July 1929 aged 83 years. And his wife Matilda who died on 13th April 1935 aged 84 years. And their son Felix who died on 23rd November 1910 aged 19 years. Rest in peace. McCullagh
