A GRAND TOUR OF ARDBOE
By Eamon McElroy
The man who planned Ireland whether it be by chance or design.
Must have had ARDBOE always on his mind.
For we got thirty-two townlands and a lough of our own.
In the most beautiful part of County Tyrone.
On a fine summer’s day from MULLINAHOE.
On a tour of the Parish I decided to go.
I was accompanied by a visiting friend.
As we went first to TAMNAVALLY through BROOKEND.
Next was AGHACOLUMB, KILLYWOOLAGAN and KILLYCOLPY did we see.
Then on to CARNAN with a nearby demesne and its mighty tall trees.
We went on through DROMORE, TAMLAGHTMORE and then MULLAGHGLASS.
It’s less you will see if travelling too fast.
So it was on to KILSALLY and ELAGH so high.
Where next down below KILMENAGH and TRICKVALLEN does lie.
Then BALLYMURPHY, DRUMADS and MULLAGHWHITRA we did get around.
Next was DRUMANEY, CLUNTO-QUIN, and into MOORTOWN.
Then after ANNAGHMORE, KINTURK, ANEETERBEG, and ANEETERMORE.
We stopped at the Battery and had a stroll on the shore.
The day being fine and no sign of the rain.
We headed for CLUNTO-RICHARDSON and SESSIA through ARDEAN.
FARSNAGH being the next one that holds the most history of all.
With its historical old cross standing so proud and tall.
The best view of the whole lough you will get there.
While on the second of August they hold the famous Old Lammas Fair.
Where the view is quite stunning I am sure you will agree.
While the Mountains of Mourne and County Antrim you easily can see.
Next was KILMASCALLY, KILLYCANAVAN and then LURGYROE.
And with KINRUSH and KILLYGONLAND to complete a grand tour of ARDBOE.
